Maximise underlying efficiency
Ensuring that your buildings and systems are operating
at maximum efficiency is one way of
reducing the quantity
of energy consumed.
Surveys and audits of your
buildings and energy-using processes will reveal opportunities
to improve efficiency. Some measures will entail little
or no cost, but others will require investment in physical
improvements to equipment and building fabric.
Examples of common energy-saving measures include:
- Insulating and draughtproofing buildings
- Replacing electric lights and
motors with high-efficiency equivalents
- Fitting improved controls
- Implementing variable-speed motor control
Not all measures are appropriate in all circumstances.
