Maintenance specifications and standards
If the size of your organisation warrants it, formal specification and standards can give you energy-conscious maintenance where before (if you were unlucky) your maintenance practices were acting against the interests of economy.
Do not be afraid to make your maintenance specification prescriptive ("you must do this, you won't do that"). As long as you are sure of your ground, it will make life easier for everyone.
