There are various commercial sources of utility market intelligence. The main benefit of subscribing to one of these services is to give yourself the edge when negotiating supply contracts. Part of the benefit will be in being able to assess how well you are doing, pricewise, in relation to other buyers in the market.

A market intelligence service may also be able to guide you in your choice of bidders, assist in negotiating with competing bidders when it is clear you are not being given the best offers, and advise you on the strategic approach to take in the marketplace (for example, whether or not to seek longer-term contracts).
